I recently decided to take a plunge into the unknown, towards my dream of becoming a full-time writer of poetry, fiction, lyrics and short stories. I left my full-time job at the end of March 2019 to pursue this very dream, after a long time of consideration and planning, and armed with a new burst of confidence after placing third in the first writing competition I’ve ever entered. This was a great honour and a sign that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. The rest, I believe, will play out as it will!
About two years ago, I started work on a novel called “Saturn & The Sea” while I was on a three hour flight. The project is a fictional story set on the planet Saturn, where the beloved first lady goes missing one morning, to the great dismay, confusion and fury of her husband, President Gravemore Thatch. The story begins with her removing her wedding ring and willingly diving into the forbidden ‘knipwater’ (melted ice particles from the ring around the planet) and the rest, well, you’ll have to read in the book.
I’m currently raising funds to buy myself three full months of time to be able to focus solely on this project. I have character descriptions and story lines worked out already and I’m excited about being able to commit to this project fully.
Another element of my fundraising involves working with a translator to develop ‘Saturno y el Mar‘, the Spanish version of the project. Shortly after starting to write this novel, I had a dream that it should be translated it into Spanish, so I’m wanting to do trust my instincts and do exactly that. Low and behold, at the start of 2019, I met someone who is willing to assist me with this. This person speaks four languages, in fact!
Ideally, with the two versions of the book under my belt, I’ll be equipped to start taking meetings with literary agents, and hopefully find a publishing home for the project sometime in the near future.
Every person who makes a $10 USD (equivalent) or more contribution towards this project, will receive a couple of goodies from me. Firstly, they will get exclusive access to the unpublished poems in my ‘Autumn Haze’ anthology, four of them, in fact, which follow on from the end of the twelve piece body of work. Each supporter will also be mentioned in the acknowledgements section of the novel, as a thank you for being a part of this new journey with me. All donor’s will also receive a signed copy of the book, once it is published.
